Carrots
Growing
Carrots

You can generally sow carrot seeds from August to May and so every few weeks I
sow more seeds to keep a continuous production of carrots.
When sowing seeds the soil must be well tilled and free of clumps and if possible
add fine sand.
This way lumps won't get in the road of root development, and you won't get really
deformed shaped carrots.
Make sure the soil is drenched with water before sowing.
Carrots don't like being transplanted, so sow seeds directly into the garden and
sow the seeds as thinly as possible,
which personally isn't easy, because the seeds are so small, but do your best.
Carrots can take a long time to germinate 10-21 days
Watch out for slugs and snails
Thin the seedlings to allow good root development and put the seedlings into a stir
fry or roast baby carrots
Apply liquid fertiliser but don't over feed or they will concentrate on leaves not roots
Leeks and carrots make great companions as their scent deters pests
Also Carrots and Rosemary or Chives deter Carrot Fly
Storing
Carrots can take up to 20 weeks to fully grow, but harvest earlier for sweet tender baby carrots.
When the foliage shrivels up, carrots have reached maturity
Keep them in the ground until required, and be careful digging them up
